It is estimated that we spend approximately one third of our lives asleep however, many people today find it hard to get a good night's sleep.If you find it difficult to get to sleep there are methods and techniques that you can use to help you get a better rest at night.It is well known that a good night's sleep plays a very important role in maintaining a healthy body and mind.Sleeping well combined with a healthy diet and plenty of regular exercise is recommended.It is important for people to sleep well to ensure they are able to function and perform at their optimum level.A lack of sleep can have many side effects.For example, if you do not sleep properly then this will affect your concentration levels.A lack of sleep will also make you feel tired and sluggish.In the long term poor sleeping habits can lead to more serious health complications such as hypertension and diabetes.There are many reasons why people do not get a good night sleep.The reasons can range from stress related conditions due to work and family commitments.Eating habits and a poor diet can also affect how well you sleep.Common reasons are back pain or pack injuries.In other cases it can have nothing to do with you, as a snoring partner can also keep you awake.The quality of your bed and mattress can also play an important role in how you sleep.Many people sleep on a mattress that does not support them adequately enough.This is a very important issue because a mattress that is too soft or is worn out can put your spinal column in an awkward position that can lead to back problems as well as a restless night.It is important that you sleep on a mattress that provides you with good support.You can test if your mattress is providing you with enough support by lying flat down on the mattress and sliding your hand under your lower back area.If you can slide your hand with just a little effort then this means that your mattress will provide you with good support.If you find that there is no gap between your lower back and the surface of the mattress then it is too soft.If the gap is too big and you can slide your hand through easily then the mattress is too hard.It is important that you get a good night's sleep as this will make you feel better both physically and emotionally.It will make you happier and provide you with energy you need to get you through the day.
